Rotary International is the oldest and most international service organization in the world. It has more than one million members forming more than 25,000 clubs in 172 countries. Many other service clubs, including the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs, have patterned themselves after Rotary. The organization’s motto "Service Above Self", exemplifies the organization’s dedication to its ,"four avenue" of: club, vocational, community, and international service. Rotary is devoted to promoting high ethical standards in business and international understanding, goodwill, and peace. Rotary’s scholarship, immunization, and nutritional programs have helped millions of people throughout the world. It operates the world’s largest privately sponsored scholarship program through the Rotary Foundation.
Rotary International has raised almost $250 million toward its goal of eradicating polio by the end of the century. Its Interact and Rotaract Clubs for teens and young adults and its Youth Exchange Program promote Rotarian values to young people. |
