Rotarians Doing Great Things!
Charter Party Huge Success - 4/24/2009
More than 105 Rotarians and their guests gathered at Glen Oaks Country Club for the club's 18th Charter party. Planned by Ro Crosbie and her always creative and efficient social committee, the evening was rated as "the best one we've ever had". Starting with a reception at 6:30, the guests had a short "tutorial" by Deborah Rinner, Tero's Director of International Protocol and Corporate Etiquette programs. Table assignments helped the guests mingle at dinner, while Deb continued to share her expertise throughout the evening. Printed below are the menu and the "tips" that were printed at each place setting.
Dine Like a Diplomat
Do leave dropped silver on the floor. Quietly signal the wait staff to bring another piece.
Do avoid talking with your mouth full. Take small bites, and you'll find it's easier to answer questions or join in table talk.
Do remember solids (food) are always on your left, liquids (beverages) are on your right.
Don't mop your face with your napkin.
Don't pick your teeth at the table, either with a toothpick or with your fingers. If something gets caught in your teeth, excuse yourself and take care of the problem in the privacy of the restroom.
Don't eat your neighbor's bread. A right-handed person reaches to the left across the dinner plate to eat bread. The bread and butter plate is placed slightly above the dinner plate.
